I Wish I Could Work From Home.

How nice would it be if you could pay some bills or print Payroll checks from home? What if you could log into your computer at work and get things done at home or on the road? Most small businesses now have a need to work remotely.  There are several methods available, and selecting the best one depends on your specific situation.

Remote Desktop: Microsoft’s solution uses your Windows Server to host virtual desktops.  This works well for larger businesses.  It requires a large enough server and some extra licenses.  One server can support several simultaneous users.

LogMeIn / GoToMyPC:  These services require a dedicated PC at the office for each remote user.  This is great for a small number of users, because the office PC is typically available to use as a remote host when the user is away.  The free version of LogMeIn is fine for some situations, and the pro version works great for apps like Quickbooks or Peachtree.

VPN:  VPN or Virtual Private Network is useful to connect offices to each other or to encrypt the links used for Remote Desktop.  It doesn’t work well for Quickbooks or Peachtree, and tends to be slower than Remote Desktop or LogMeIn.
